More Sad News: Dover On Court Street Seems To Have Closed

From Dover's web site

It would appear that Dover at 412 Court Street served its final dinner this past Sunday evening. We first heard about the surprising closing from a friend who bid adieu to this 'neighborhood gem' on her Facebook page.
By Monday morning, a simple "Closed" sign had been taped to its doors and by Tuesday, the web site
featured the same and had been reduced to just the opening page.
To make sure, we talked past it on Tuesday evening, and the place was dark, the chairs resting on the tables.

The restaurant, owned by chefs Joseph Ogrodnek and Walker Stern, who also opened the wildly popular Battersby on Smith Street just a few blocks away, had received accolades for Dover when it opened in early 2014.
The eatery seemed to be very popular in the neighborhood and certainly drew many dinners who had failed to secure a reservation at Battersby.

It is disappointing that Dover only lasted two years in the neighborhood and sad to see another dark storefront in Carroll Gardens.
The space was previously occupied by Vinzee's , a burger joint, and before that, it was home to t laundromat.

OH NO! This was our favorite "special occasion" restaurant. Their food was excellent. Does anyone know why they closed?

I agree. Dover was such a great restaurant in the neighborhood - always quality, always hit the spot. Very sad to see it go and I hope this isn't a precursor for things to come.

sad to see another spot in the neighborhood pull up their stakes - though i was never a big fan of dover.

a bit too precious and too pricey while i never felt it had the welcoming vibe of a local's spot. so many other options nearby (though they too are dropping off).

It was just a matter of time. Way over priced and had about as much atmosphere as does the moon.

So sad to hear that, such a great team. Even though I agree that the decor and atmosphere was really bad, the food was delicious. I did celebrate several birthday there, with great memories. This is sad, but not surprising, it had been empty for the past few months. Which is wired as it used to be packed... I remember the space was empty for such a long time after that horrible Vinzi (the rent is crazy over there, probably why that restaurant was expensive). Let's hope it won't stay empty for another year.

Dover never obtained a permit for the illegal sidewalk cafe use of 1st Place Right of Way

I am surprised they lasted as long as they did. Their food was fine, albeit way too pricey, but not outstanding and with plenty of strong competition in the area. What was really unappealing is their lack of decor, they always had that temporary look of a pop-up restaurant and the beige color scheme was depressing. It was a step-up from that ghastly restaurant that was pushing soda and hot dogs on the neighborhood kids that was in that space before.

They were ridiculously expensive. It's Carroll Gardens, not midtown Manhattan.
